The APM Group Principles of Change Management Qualification
Background
Traditionally, business projects had a specified start, a clearly defined middle and a defined end. Based on a management by objectives approach, project managers knew what had to be done, and the team had a very clear goal. However, the pace of change is accelerating, becoming more complex and demanding, and this has affected the traditional Project Management approach.
All organisations need to embrace the challenges of business change, and be able to react not just to competitive pressures, but also to wider political and environmental issues. Dealing with change and, more importantly, the impact of change is a high priority for all organisations. The Change Management Courses are designed to help organisations address these issues.
The APMG have worked with respected Change Leaders, Esther Cameron and Mike Green and developed a training course based on the concepts in their book “Making Sense of Change Management”. All delegates are required to have a copy of this book, which is the course text for The Principals of Change Management course.
Who Is The Course For?
The course is for those wishing to understand theories of how change impacts on and is affected by the individual, the team, the organisation and those leading the change. There are no pre-requisites for attending the course.
Key Learning Outcomes for Individuals
As a result of the courses, delegates will:
- Have a stronger grasp of the impact of change
- Be able to understand and address the negative impacts of change initiatives in order to achieve the full benefits of change.
- Gain a pragmatic approach to manage the impacts of change.
- Be able to personally deal with the increasingly frequent rate of change that is affecting all organisations.
- Change Leaders will be able to lead others through change initiatives.
Key Outcomes for Organisations
The Principles of Change Management Course will provide delegates with a good understanding of change and its impact on the organisation. This understanding will enhance their performance, and empower them to succeed against key targets.
Organisations who invest in the capability of their staff by providing change management training will be able to react more effectively to the many pressures brought about by change, whether it is local/global competition or wider political and environmental issues that they regularly face.
The Principles of Change Management qualification is a pre-requisite for the Certified Change Leader Course.
The Certified Change Leader Course provides an independent validation of a manager’s ability to lead a Change Programme.
The Principles of Change Management Course
Overview
This is a three day, modular, tutor-lead course dealing with the theories of how change impacts on and is affected by the following:
- Module 1: The Individual
- Module 2: The Team
- Module 3: The Organisation
- Module 4: Leading Change.
Course Format
The course comprises a mixture of learning sessions, group exercises and scenario based practical work. During the course, delegates will undertake a number of exercises and mock examinations. From these they will gain feedback on their progress towards eventual success.
All courses are designed to be lively and interactive, and delegate participation is encouraged
Trainers
All trainers are experienced leaders of business change. Our trainers have all had significant experience in Programme & Project Management in both the public and private sectors. This background enables them to relate to delegates and the issues they face in their normal work environment.
Examination
Upon successful completion of the exam delegates will receive a certificate and be added to the list of successful candidates in the Change Management section on the APMG website.
This is a 1 hour exam with 60 multiple-choice questions, 15 questions for each module.
The pass mark is 40/60, representing 67% of the total marks available.
It is a “closed book” exam which means that no materials can be accessed during the exam.
To register for the exams delegates must produce an official form of photographic identification to present to the Tutor (e.g. passport, driving licence, student card etc). Delegates will not be eligible to sit the exam without it.
Prior to the Course
Delegates will be sent “Making Sense of Change Management” by Esther Cameron & Mike Green. They should familiarise themselves with this book before attending the course, as it forms the basis of both the course and the exam. We recommend that approximately 6-8 hours is committed to this study.
During the Course
Delegates will be expected to:
- Undertake approximately 2 hours of homework each night
- Continue to read “Making Sense of Change Management”
