M_o_R® Exam Preparation

This course is available on SPOCE's open public schedule, or can be held at your premises.

Officially launched in 2002, the Management of Risk Guide (M_o_R®) guide is intended to help organisations put in place an effective framework for risk management, helping decision making based on risks that affect strategic, programme, project and operational objectives.

The Practitioner Examination Preparation event provides an opportunity to apply learning of the M_o_R guide to scenario-based tasks.  The scenarios used on this event are in the same format to those used in the APM Group Practitioner Exam.  The Foundation Exam (1-hour, multiple choice) must be passed prior to attempting the Practitioner Exam. If you require the Foundation Exam, please contact SPOCE for the options available.

The focus of this event is to apply previous learning of the method to sample Practitioner style exam questions. No learning of ‘new’ M_o_R topics should be expected, rather an enhancement of your existing knowledge. An approved Trainer will be on-hand to provide feedback and guidance on the work completed.

Who is the course designed for?

The Examination Preparation Event is designed for anyone who has recently passed the M_o_R Foundation Exam and wishes to receive advice and guidance in preparation for taking the APM Group M_o_R Practitioner Examination.  The event will help anyone who wishes to understand and appreciate how M_o_R is applied. The event is not suitable for anyone wishing to learn or substantially revise the M_o_R guide. For revision of the M_o_R method, SPOCE recommends that candidates consider sitting on the 4-day M_o_R course.

All Delegates attending the Exam Preparation Event must already have reached the standard of knowledge required and have passed the pre-requisite Foundation Examination.

What are the course objectives?

The key objectives of this Exam Preparation event are to:

  • Provide Delegates with an opportunity to review their individual preparation for the M_o_R Practitioner examination.
  • Develop the delegate’s ability to apply M_o_R appropriately through various scenarios and associated objective tests.
  • Receive advice and guidance from an APM Group Approved M_o_R Trainer.
  • Discuss specific areas of M_o_R with an Approved Trainer and other attendees, and to devise exam strategies from the responses provided.

What is the course approach?

During the course, candidates will have an opportunity to try out the application of their existing M_o_R knowledge to a typical scenario and objective tests.

It can be expected that this preparation event will improve the likelihood of passing the APMG Practitioner Exam.  However, success in the exam requires some basic analytical skills under time pressure, and this event is not intended to provide anything other than a high-level appreciation of these important skills.

Due to the intense nature of this course, delegates should plan to commit approximately 1 hour each evening during the course for study and review.

What examinations are taken on the course?

Practitioner: 3 hours open book (M_o_R® manual and the APMG guidance document ABC Consulting Ltd. only), scenario-based objective test consisting of 4 questions of 20 marks each. The pass mark is 50% (40/80).

Candidates may make use of Management of Risk: Guidance for Practitioners (the Management of Risk 'manual'), together with the APMG guidance document ABC Consulting Ltd.
