Foundation/Practitioner Exam Revision

MSP Logo

Overview

The MSP® Practitioner Examination Preparation event provides an opportunity for delegates to revise key areas of the MSP Guidance and discuss these with a delegate peer group. The event will work through various example Practitioner questions and consider the reasoning behind the answers, developing a deeper understanding of the application of the Guidance. Delegates will also be able to become familiar with the Objective Testing Exam (OTE) format and consider various exam approaches and strategies.

The focus of this event is primarily to refresh existing knowledge of the Guidance and to provide experience of the Practitioner style Objective Test exam. It is expected that delegates will already have the Foundation level qualification or are ready to take the exam.

Designed For

The Examination Preparation Event is designed for:

  • Delegates who have purchased the MSP® Passport product and wish to prepare for the Practitioner exam.
  • Delegates who require revision in preparation to re-sit the Practitioner exam.
  • Delegates who have previously attended SPOCE’s Foundation classroom course and passed the exam who now wish to progress to Practitioner level.
  • Delegates who wish to sit the Practitioner Re-registration exam. (Please also see separate MSP® Re-registration course outline for further information).

The event is not suitable for anyone wishing to learn or substantially revise the MSP Method.  The expectation is that all Delegates attending will already have reached the standard of knowledge required to pass the pre-requisite Foundation Examination based on the 2007 MSP Guidance.

Objectives

The key objectives of this Exam Preparation event are to:

  • Provide Delegates with an opportunity to review their individual preparation for the MSP® Practitioner examination.
  • Review and discuss specific areas of the MSP Guidance with an APM Group Approved MSP Trainer.
  • Develop the delegate’s depth of understanding and ability to apply the MSP Guidance appropriately through various project-based scenarios and associated objective tests.
  • Provide Delegates with an opportunity to complete sample Practitioner examination questions, consider the reasoning behind the correct responses and devise exam strategies.

The Practitioner Examination - Final Hints & Tips

The Practitioner Exam is a 2 ½ -hour (Re-registration Exam is 1 hour) objective test consisting of 9 questions that test the candidate’s knowledge of the Guidance.  Candidates can use the MSP Manual as reference during the examination.  A minimum of 50% correct answers are required to pass.  Exam papers are marked by APM Group and results are usually available within 2- 3 weeks.

Approach

Following the event, delegates will have had an opportunity to try out the application of their existing MSP knowledge to a number of typical scenarios and objective tests.

It may be expected that this preparation event will improve the likelihood of passing the APMG Practitioner Exam.  However, success in the exam requires some basic analytical skills under time pressure and the event is not intended to provide anything other than a high-level appreciation of these important skills.

Event Details

The Exam Preparation day is held on a Thursday followed on Friday by the Foundation and Practitioner exams.  The Preparation Event is held quarterly in London on a non-residential basis.

Delegates receive a copy of the MSP® Examination Assistant containing sample APMG Practitioner papers and exam guidance.  The official MSP Guidance can be referenced during the Practitioner examinations, and it is expected that the candidate will possess a copy of this already.  If required, SPOCE can supply a copy of the MSP Guidance for £45.00 + vat + pp.

Included in the price for this open event are all teaching materials as well as morning and afternoon tea/coffee and lunch.
