If you want an IT working practice that perfectly compliments ITIL® then COBIT® 5 is for you. While ITIL® is a roadmap of how we should organise our processes to get the best from our ITSM, COBIT® 5 will assess from the top down. It is a way for those in top management to understand how IT services can create the best value for money for the enterprise.
COBIT® 5 is the bridge between IT and the rest of the business and aligns goals. It acknowledges the need to meet business objectives and the needs of key stakeholders, taking into consideration what is best for the enterprise as a whole. An example of this is cloud computing. The adoption of cloud computing, although technology based, affects the entire enterprise, from the ability to fulfil business goals to how employees structure their work. It is not simply an IT task to be carried out.
There are 5 basic principles that underpin COBIT® 5
